Atanasio, patriarca di Alessandria, raccontando la vicenda di Antonio, pochi anni dopo la morte, diede vasta risonanza al suo modello di vita. Anche Copti, Siri e Bizantini ne ricordano il dies natalis il 17 gennaio. Tappa sul cammino verso Santiago di Compostela, il villaggio di Saint-Antoine-l'Abbaye, inserito nell'elenco dei più bei borghi di Francia, delizierà gli amanti dei patrimoni architettonici con antiche case a graticcio, una struttura medievale per il mercato al coperto e l'abbazia fondata nel 1297 dall'ordine di Sant'Antonio per accogliere le reliquie di Sant'Antonio Abate, detto anche Sant'Antonio d'Egitto. Del suo ricco passato religioso, Saint-Antoine-l'Abbaye custodisce ancora un edificio davvero degno di nota: la chiesa abbaziale di Sant'Antonio, costruita fra il XIII e il XV secolo. Classificata come monumento storico, questa costruzione in stile gotico presenta un magnifico portale scolpito. Here he fought against Satan, he was thaumaturge and authoritative guide for his disciples and for many other people who flocked to him. Athanasius, patriarch of Alexandria, in recounting the story of Anthony, a few years after his death, gave wide resonance to his model of life. Copts, Sirians and Byzantines also remember the dies natalis on January 17th. Stop on the way to Santiago de Compostela, the village of Saint-Antoine-l'Abbaye, included in the list of the most beautiful villages in France, will delight lovers of architectural heritage with ancient half-timbered houses, a medieval structure for the covered market and the abbey founded in 1297 by the order of Sant'Antonio to house the relics of Sant'Antonio Abate, also known as Sant'Antonio d'Egitto. Of its rich religious past, Saint-Antoine-l'Abbaye still preserves a truly noteworthy building: the abbey church of Sant'Antonio, built between the 13th and 15th centuries. Classified as a historic monument, this Gothic-style construction features a magnificent carved portal. Inside, pilgrims and visitors will be able to admire murals, walnut stalls, Aubusson tapestries, the monumental high altar which houses the reliquary of Sant'Antonio Abate, and an organ from the period between the 17th and 18th centuries. Also not to be missed is the treasure of the hospitable order of the canons of Sant'Antonio Abate, in the sacristy of the church, which consists of reliquaries, vestments, surgical instruments and an ivory Christ. The departmental museum of Saint-Antoine-l'Abbaye, located in the old novitiate, offers exhibitions on the Middle Ages, on the abbey and on the hospitable order of the canons of Sant'Antonio Abate. The visit ends with the medieval garden in the courtyard of the Great Stables.

The very popular story of her passion was collected as early as the fourth century by Pope Damasus. Saint Ambrose and Saint Augustine indicated her as a shining model of a Christian virgin. According to the Depositio martyrum (336), her memory was celebrated on January 21 in Rome in the cemetery of the same name on Via Nomentana. Her name is mentioned in the Roman Canon.
